Advantages of plasma-arc welding over conventional welding processes

  • During the TIG short time welding process as well as the plasma-arc welding process, the welding filler is added separately from the actual arc. This allows a more precise welding process than using a system with consumable electrode. This is one of the reasons for the superiority of the TIG and plasma-arc welding systems at high-quality welding jobs.
  • Very high arc stability also at changes of length or stepped edges on the welding joint.
  • Small weld pool, small heat affected zones (HAZ) and small width of weld seam (ratio: seam width/ seam depth = 1:1 to 1:2). Therefore the welded components are less deformed by heat.
  • The great seam depth allows the square butt welding of plates with 8mm thickness. Less work for the edge preparation, less need for welding filler and less deformation by heat lead to significant advantages in productivity.
  • The contactless ignition of the plasma-arc is highly reliable.
  • The welding bead and the sagging of the root of seam are very little. This can lead to considerable cost reductions, as otherwise, the weld seam must often be fashioned mechanically.
  • The high stability of the arc can also be ensured for low currents of 0.1 amps (micro plasma-arc welding).
