Plasma-arc welding: A productive high performance welding process
|
- Increased welding speed compared to TIG short time welding (up to 1.5 times faster)
- Small weld pool and thus less deformation than with other arc welding processes
- High arc stability at changes of length
- No problems with stepped edges
- Welding bead and the sagging of the root of seam are very small, leading to almost no additional mechanical work
- No ignition problems thanks to the pilot arc
- High energy density is advantageous for welding thermo conductible metals (copper, silver, gold, etc.)
- Welding of very thin material is possible (from 0.1 mm)
- Plug welding up to 8 mm strong material in one cycle without lots of seam preparation

So why still use TIG-welding?
Plasma-arc welding has several significant advantages compared with conventional welding systems. Nevertheless, its distribution in the market is very low, which can be put down to the fact that the knowledge of this system is not sufficiently spread. Basic conditions to use the advantages of the plasma-arc welding system successfully are a careful planning and preparation of its application.
