Micro plasma welding

When does one speak of mikro plasma welding?

The term "micro plasma welding" describes the welding range (range of applied welding parameters) in the filed of plasma welding, which allows stable welding conditions even at low welding current. This is the range in which the current-voltage characteristic of the TIG welding process can no longer deliver practical working points (<25A welding current). Special requirements are placed on welding equipment and welding torches. Due to the high energy density, an exact regulation of the welding current and a high precision is necessary for the production of the plasma torches. In contrast to conventional TIG equipment, the requirements are usually higher by a factor of 10. Micro plasma welding ranges from welding foils with a thickness of 0.01 mm to contacts, welding of wire meshes, and welding of sheet metal.

Application areas

  • Welding current starts at 0.1A
  • Micro plama welding of foils, sievs, thin-walled components <0,5mm
  • Manual and automated micro plama welding
  • Repairing of tools (surfacing on edges)
  • Micro plasma welding of diaphragms and bellows (compensators)

Can the MIG-O-MAT plasmaJET series used for microplasma welding ?

Yes, the machines plasmaJET50, plasmaJET100 and plasmaJET100SPS are specially designed for micro plasma welding.
